Dr Michael Mayo AB, MA, MSc, DPhil
My research focuses on the work of modernist writers and their engagement with religion, psychoanalysis, and political action. At the moment I'm working on a manuscript that traces the ways James Joyce used the Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius Loyola to produce a certain kind of labour for his readers. I lead tutorials in literature from 1930 to the present day, and run the college's Visiting Student Programme as well. I was the first person in my family to go to university, and I'm involved in a range of programmes to increase access to Oxford.
